Sisters
I am currently running three sites. The common theme? Women. What ties us together? We are all sisters. What do we like to do? Feel good, make friends, look good, be inspired.
Not Just Purses (’Purses’)
My first site to be published publicly was Not Just Purses This site was originally created in Free Webs and I was thrilled with the results. I quickly realized I was building it in an environment that was limiting and not social network friendly. My fabulous friend, Ann (long distance sister) recommended I go with Word Press. Having had some experience with it in the past, I took on the challenge and found a host, built it up (again) and republished. What I didn’t do was build it on the Not Just Purses domain name. I was using the name I had registered with my host, which was causing problems with some of the links when we tested them out. The idea of someone selecting an item in the shop and having the masked domain name Not Just Purses appear, didn’t sit right with me, so I moved the name servers for Not Just Purses over to the host and rebuilt it a third time. Admittedly this was much easier since I already had found most of the plug ins, theme data I wanted.
My next challenge was narrowing the focus. I really just wanted to do it all, and still do! I emailed 30 of my close contacts, who I knew would be extra critical (at least I hoped so!) and got their feedback. Thank you for those that responded. I learned a lot from this exercise, and will always remain open to hearing people’s feedback.
The name Not Just Purses, is not obvious at first glance which has been a difficult challenge for me. Personally, I really enjoy how it became what it is and do believe in time it will gain solid ground and hopefully bring inspiration to others. My mom (my best big sister, best friend, confidant) had recently purchased a Marc Jacobs bag. I saw her glow and fuss over this incredibly cute purse and it almost grew to be contagious. I felt a desire to get one too (haven’t gotten one yet - lol!) but it rang that it wasn’t just a purse. The purse brought on a happy feeling, a sense of style, a little something that made you sparkle inside. We all know that feeling when you get your walk out of a salon and feel luxurious or get the absolute amazing outfit that makes you look 15 pounds lighter. It is the feeling of goodness and the sense of style.
All About Sisters (’Sisters’)
The women in my particular family are grand. We have few men born into the family. In one particular generation, my mother’s, she is one of five girls. In my generation, I am one of four girls. Even my husband, has three sisters. Men in our family were scarce growing up, which gave plenty of opportunity for the term sisterhood to be born.
All About Sisters is a collection of articles, tributes and stories about the sisters out there in this world. Everything from family dynamics to personal stories to famous sisters. This site can cover it.
Here is a hint to some of the basic categories you will find here:
- Dear Sister; my personal reflections
- Famous Sisters; a featured article or series of articles about famous sisters we know and love
- Sister Dynamics; how sisters play a vital role in our lives
- and much more …
While the purpose of this site focuses on the sisters in our lives that we grow up with, I don’t want to forget about our soul sisters. Much of the sister experience is felt within the home while growing up, but often we meet people along the way who we connect with spiritually and form lifelong friendships with. So women everywhere, have this opportunity to be a sister to someone; even when we are not born into it.
I hope you enjoy your visit and would love hearing feedback, comments or stories you would like to share. My personal goal is to keep this site growing and with time, become a resource for sisters around the globe.
Gab and Blab (’Gab’)
Doing what women to best, it is all about communication. My goal is to discuss topics that are of interest to women. This is my sandbox, so expect it to breathe and comments are highly appreciated!
All sites are works in progress and some may grow more branches as time goes on. I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I am enjoying the journey.
Many thanks,
-njppa
