Dear Sister …
I called but no one answered
I watched the women in my family miss decades of relationships together over issues they didn’t even know the reason for. The stubborn streak is strong, the sense of dignity courses through the veins, no one shall break the code when there is silence.
We shalt not ask, not make the first move, instead we wait .. decades by the off chance that we meet and each others defenses are down.
It took my grandmother dying on her bed to bring five sisters together after 30 years. It literally woke her from her morphine induced sleep to shout happy new year with tears in her eyes, how happy this day was. The moment was incredible and years of were tension was released. She thanked us and relationships were mended.
My sister and I made a pact that we would always be there for one another and we would never let the silent years come between us. Little did I know that we would end up on that same path.
I will write more about why I am writing in future posts. I hope this journey brings peace as well as truths.
What is a sister?
This is not about a quick fix, nor a spat.. this is about relationships and family dynamics. We have that but we have failed each other and I believe this can be my outlet as well as inspiration to others who may not have the voice to speak out about their own situation.
